All of our classes can be tailored to students with special needs. We love to find the unique “shine” inside of each student!
Collaborative Approach
In our special needs dance classes, we strive to create a reinforcing atmosphere. With parental permission, we love to collaborate with our student’s teachers, therapists, and families to find the best approach to teaching our students. We work with host facilities to ensure class sizes will meet each students’ needs and strive to maintain a close relationship with all of our students’ parents, as we believe them to be the best advocate and knowledge-base for their child.
Our Experience
Our Director has worked with individuals with various special needs for the past ten years and brings a diverse set of skills and experience including background in Applied Behavior Analysis, Brain Gym®, and the Nurtured Heart Approach. Although the primary purpose of classes is to provide a recreational activity, these various therapeutic approaches consistently come into play when developing curriculum and class structure.
Special Needs Dance
In our Special Needs Dance classes, students are encouraged to explore movement and gain confidence. We develop curriculum based on the current motor abilities of the class as a whole, as well as the goals students are trying to achieve. We are well prepared to adapt movements to students with any types of disabilities- both cognitive and physical. We include age appropriate social dances in our classes to help students gain a deeper sense of confidence with peers. We believe in our students and their ABILITIES. While we ensure the pace is appropriate, we also maintain our SHINE level of technical competence and push our students to achieve their full potential!
